What began as a motel back in the 50’s, called The Orange Blossom Motel, the business was named after the orange trees that were located on the property. Years later, the motel was purchased and converted into a bakery and became what it is today. The current owners, Lisa and Charley Pereira, have kept all the popular menu items that have made The Orange Blossom famous over the years.
The most recognizable and delicious treat on the menu, confirmed by tourists and returning Hatteras Island guests, are the “Apple Ugliesâ€. As featured in Our State Magazine, they are designed by using leftover donut dough, mixing in some apples and creating a fritter. Its shape and appearance are where its name originated. As confirmed by our Media Specialist yesterday, it is the ugliest baked good you have probably ever seen and it is absolutely delicious!
