Outer Banks September Weather
The weather on the Outer Banks in September is spectacular. Although it’s home to hurricane season and if you visit during this time we highly suggest purchasing trip insurance, September is one of the best months to visit! Early September is still reminiscent of summer with hot breezy days and warm inviting nights. The beaches are empty and the water is still pretty warm. The average high daily temperature on the Outer Banks in September 79º and the low is 68º. The water temperatures range from 75º to 78º. With such warm weather, this gives guests and locals alike a chance to get out and enjoy the beach, historic sites, and some fun Outer Banks events!
Outer Banks September Events
With great weather comes great events! The OBX is home to the WRV Outer Banks Pro; a surf competition showcasing some of the world’s best professional surfers! This event is free and open to the public which sets you up for the perfect beach day. Other events to enjoy are the ESA Eastern Surfing Championship, the Outer Banks Jeep Invasion, and the Outer Banks Fall Kite Festival!
Outer Banks September Rental Rates
Another good thing about the shoulder season and the OBX in September? Lower vacation rental rates! Take for example; a large, oceanfront, Signature Series home can advertise rates as much at $17,000 per week in peak summer season. The same home drops down to about $9,000 during the first week of September and down to around $5,700 during the last couple weeks of September! You can truly vacation on a budget during September on the Outer Banks!
September Recommendations From A Local
From an Outer Banks locals’ perspective; the number one thing to do in September on the Outer Banks is soak up the sun. Get out and go to the beach and spend as much time there as possible. With empty and exspansive beaches, you’ll be able to truly relax. The number two must do? Get out and EAT. Try out some of the restaurants that are super busy in the summer and that have hours of wait time. Some of my personal favorites are Blue Moon, Mama Kwans, Miller’s, and Kill Devil Grill. All can have a seriously long wait time in the summer, but really short during the fall!
